The more parenting is built on understanding, communication, and allowing the child to express their opinion freely—without fear or dread of the parents’ reaction—and the more you maintain a good relationship with your children, the closer the child will get to achieving harmony with themselves, their family, and society during adolescence.

Conversely, the more parenting is based on methods of harshness, humiliation, physical and verbal punishment, discrimination, neglect, or overindulgence and overprotection, the closer the child will get to “maladjusted adolescence,” whether that manifests as withdrawal, aggression, or delinquency.
