How to Handle Children’s Conflicts

Conflicts often arise between our children while playing or during discussions. Our reaction to what happens must be balanced and free of discrimination or favoritism, so we do not cause harm to their feelings or psychological well-being. But how should we handle it?!

  • Conflict over toys: You can allocate specific time for each of them with the toy or join them in their play.
  • Minor disagreements: These can be ignored if there is no underlying cause or physical hitting involved.
  • Major conflicts: Allow each child the opportunity to express their point of view.
  • Avoid comparisons: Praise them in each other’s presence so they realize that every person has their own unique strengths.
  • Reinforce cooperation: Praise your children when they cooperate; don’t wait until they fight to give them your attention.
  • Be a role model: Be a positive example for your son regarding cooperation and sharing with others.
