Fear of Bathing (Ablutophobia)

The “bath time battle” often occurs between a mother and her child. Mothers frequently don’t understand why bathing feels like a war and struggle to convince their children, and because they don’t grasp the underlying cause, they cannot reach a solution. Therefore, here are some reasons why children fear bathing:

  • Water Phobia (Ablutophobia): Some children suffer from what is known as water phobia. This feeling may start from birth or as a result of a bad experience, such as choking on water, being scalded by hot water, or getting soap in their eyes.
  • Feeling Cold After Bathing: Simply put, some children hate bathing because they feel cold after a warm bath. Your child might be sensitive to temperature changes, which affects them significantly.
  • Fear of Falling in the Bathroom: Some children are overcome by the fear of slipping inside the bathroom and getting injured. Your child might dread bathing due to the fear of experiencing such an incident during the process.
