Causes of Destructive Behavior in Children

Our children often resort to breaking things and toys, and mothers usually react with anger and outbursts without understanding the underlying cause. There are several reasons that drive a child toward destructive behavior, including:

  1. Curiosity and Exploration: The desire to explore objects and understand how they are put together.
  2. Seeking Attention: A way to get noticed if they feel neglected by their parents.
  3. Feeling Frustrated: Resulting from their questions being ignored or being prevented from speaking.
  4. Hyperactivity: Having excess energy without having proper activities to channel it into.
  5. Lack of Skills: It may be unintentional, resulting from a lack of cognitive or physical coordination.
  6. Psychological Distress: When feeling inferior, oppressed, or emotionally disturbed, they may unconsciously resort to revenge by breaking whatever they can get their hands on.
